The weekly round-up
A smattering of crazy stories and a few snippets of news
It's Friday. Have a drink?
So lovely readers, over the course of a week I can amass a pile of press releases concerning things that are vaguely interesting or important but don't warrant an entire article; release to the Twitterverse a stream of somewhat amusing or interesting links; and stumble upon the odd story that has a serious degree of 'Wuh?!' factor that really needs to be shared. All of which can be neatly condensed into a digest for your edification and amusement on a Friday. Here they are, then, my notes from the surf from the past week.
First, the insanely awesome Triggertrap has gone into production. They should be shipping around February! If you've not ordered yours yet, you really should.
Occipital announced that it has released version 1.0.1 of its 360 Panorama for Android. With any luck, it'll stop crashing every time that someone tries to use it now.
There's a firmware upgrade for Leica M9s and M9-Ps. It's available here.
Adobe opened its Design Achievement Awards to submissions. All the details are on its website.
British amateur photographer Bob Patefield has reached an out-of-court settlement with Lancashire Police after they arrested him because they deemed his taking photos suspicious'. More details from SceneThat.
I actually heard this story about a photographer accidentally removing a toddler's birthmark from a portrait, leading to the mother complaining so vehemently that every news publication in the country has since picked it up, on the radio. Now all you have to do is type 'airbrushed toddler' into Google and you're immersed.
I'm not sure if this Daily Mail photo editor is incredibly observant or terribly bored, but she's charted the mysterious case of Kelly Rowland's peripatetic beauty spot in 15 photos. (And for the love of all the Pantheon, no, I don't read the Daily Mail. It was thanks to the BBC!)
And finally the Fleet Street Fox has written this super homage to the skill, passion, cunning, and livers of the Fleet Street photojournalists.
