Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day

It is not too soon to start thinking about

Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day 2011.

As an enthusiastic contributor to Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day, I would like to announce that the next WPPD event will be a full week instead of a single day. This is due to the fact that the last Sunday in April will fall on Easter Sunday. This event will allow extra time over previous years which should allow even more time to produce great pinhole images.

Even though this event is still over 5 months away, now is the time to start planning. Now is the time to start thinking about the camera and the technique you want to use. Now is the time to start building your camera and to consider the many possibilities of this ancient technique. As the event gets closer, you should tell all of your photographic friends about your participation and that there will be a gallery of great  images taken with a primitive but absolutely magical photographic technique. Now is the time to get all of them involved.

We pinholers believe that the simplicity of a pinhole camera can open big doors for creativity to flourish.

2011 will be an interesting celebration.  Pinhole Day is always the last Sunday in April.  In 2011, though, it is also Easter Sunday.  This won't happen again until 2038!  For next year, though, the Pinhole Day coordinators have decided that, for 2011 only, we will accept pinhole photographs taken between April 23 and May 1.  This is a pinhole week and then some!  Included in this time period as Anzac Day, Easter and May Day. As always, it will be a delight to see the results of creativity from across our planet.

WPPD is an event that unites people across the globe on the last Sunday of April each year. People from all around the world take pinhole images of whatever they want and upload them to the WPPD website. The resulting gallery is a unique collection of images that showcases more of our commonalities than our differences.

Please join us on the next WPPD on the last Sunday of 2011.

To find out more about and how to participate in Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day 2011 go to: http://www.pinholeday.org/

There will be plenty of opportunity to learn how to build a camera, participate in workshops and to learn about the amazing technique of pinhole imaging.

Personally, I hope that from now on, it will be a pinhole week. WPPW sounds OK to me.

In the past I have created a few posters for this event. I will be producing a new poster for the 2011 event that will be available on the WPPD website.

I hope to post a few tips and announcements for WPPD over the next few months.

Please keep posted.
