Two cops suspended in Maryland beating incident; FBI investigating
Two cops have been suspended in the beating that left a 21-year-old University of Maryland student unconscious with a gaping head gash that required staples to mend.
But so far, none of the three cops who were directly involved in the beating have been identified.
The suspended officers are the sergeant supervising the officers as well as the officer who wrote up the false report, an Officer S. McAleavey.
McAleavey was not at the scene, but wrote up the report after taking the information from the other officers, according to The Washington Post.
In other words, he knows exactly who did the beatings, but is obviously not talking.
So much for protecting and serving the public. Let him go down with the rest of the criminals.
In McAleavey’s sworn statement, he claimed that student Jack McKenna assaulted the officers.
The video, however, proved that to be a lie.
The video shows McKenna skipping along the sidewalk, celebrating the University of Maryland’s basketball victory of Duke University on March 3 when he came across a couple of officers on horseback.
He stopped dancing as the officers on horseback moved in closer. He started stepping backward.
Suddenly, three other officers on foot who were dressed in indistinguishable riot gear rushed in and started beating him.
At least one of them beat him repeatedly with his baton.
According to a previous ABC 7 story.
In the sworn statement, police claimed McKenna “struck those officers and their horses causing minor injuries,” and that McKenna was “kicked by the horses and sustained minor injuries.”
The video does not support either of the police claims.
McKenna suffered a head wound requiring multiple staples. The injuries to his body match the pattern of the police batons — not horses hooves
The video was so blatant that the FBI is now investigating, which is a good sign because usually these matters are usually investigated within their own department, meaning the cops end up with a slap on the wrist, if anything.
The Prince George’s County police department’s internal affairs division and the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney office are also investigating. But sources say the FBI and Justice Department are not content to defer to local agencies in the investigation.
Considering that McKenna was facing prison time before the video went public and his charges were dropped, the officers involved in this incident deserve nothing less than prison.

Hopeful the officers involved get some serious penalty, criminal and civil. I also hope we see institution level change at the county PD.

It’s still kind of amazing they’re suspended instead of sitting in a jail cell (as any regular citizen would be,) but I know better than to be surprised.

Haven’t the officers suffered enough? It really takes a lot out of you when you dish out a beating. They probably woke up the next day all achy.

Recognizing low-hanging fruit (PG County) when they see it, the FBI is now involved.
The only solution I see any more is the old eye for an eye theory otherwise they’ll never be a deterent for the next cop who thinks of getting out of line and beating an innocent citizen.
Carlos, you might want to update your post. So far, none of the officers suspended were directly involved in the beatings.

Sounds like these could be supervisors? Also, the grandfather of the kid beat is a former Montgomery County MD judge.
Thanks, Jesus, just updated the story.
Seems we all agree that the cops never get enough punishment. All the cops that are in that video need to be tried, fired and bared from working in any kind of law enforcement in the future, because they know of wrong doing by other officers and did nothing to stop it which is conspiracy. Anyone that participated in any kind of false testimony or actually hit anyone needs to spend time in prison. It’s the only way these atrocities are going to stop.

That was an unprovoked felonious assault perpitrated on an innocent person, if any of us had done that we would be sitting in jail somewhere, but because these are cops, they get a softball toss.
Whats worse is since these men are supposed to be trusted officials, the crime is even worse and so should be the punishment.
Everyone involved, from filing the false reports, to hiding the identity of the “muggers’ should already be in jail, yet they are still walking the street.
We should all Be DEMANDING the names and their immediate arrests.
Let them sit in jail while the investigation continues, just like any of us would be forced to do.
And none of this would’ve happened if it weren’t for the video. The student in question would’ve been charged and convicted with the fake reports. Think about that for a moment.
What’s worse is it made me think maybe Britain has it right with all the cameras. Then I came to my Senses, but for a minute there…
The American Sheep Village thinks Iran’s cops are despicable filth.
If American law enforcement isn’t jacked down a few notches we’ll have an army of despotic thugs ready to rock’n roll if the wrong fucker gets voted in.
Quit supporting this cabal of unethical trash. Do not support them financially or morally.
If they cannot handle the authority strip it from them and make the entire group pay the price for the rotten apples in their midst.
This whole canker needs to be cleaned up if this country is to avoid dissolving into a dictatorship.
The political retoric on all the websites is starting to sound like the adults in a peanuts cartoon. Wawa wawa wawa.
Fools say “most cops are good”. If most cops are good, where are the “good cops” who will put these cops in jail?
Answer: They don’t exist.

Des Moines Ia where chief Bradshaw had one of her officers arrested on duty for sexual assault in his patrol car within 12 hrs of the complaint being filed. They are out there.
As other have said: It’s horrible that police are not held to the same standards (and LAWS) as non-police. If I had beat that young man unconscious the only way I would be out of jail right now would be to have posted bail.
Plus, in the “real world” if i covered up a crime I could face the same punishment as the perpetrator.
If anything thing cops should be held to a hirer standard. They are hired to enforce the laws of the land–not learn how to circumvent them.

Prince George… Why am I not suprised.
They deserve prison time. Disgusting. Should be ashamed of themselves (but I doubt they are).
The most important and disturbing fact here (though not a surprise) is the fact that the officers had NO fear of beating this man without reason in front of hundreds of witnesses. They just didn’t count of the video camera!
This says so much about the lying officers will do in court and the court systems propensity to believe officers over any number of witnesses. Officers have no fear of the testimony of others, as the courts will simply take their word over that of the public.
Imagine if the poor videographer was seen by the police on the street. I’d imagine there’d be no tape and we’d have one more assaulted person.

Good point and well said, Mike S.
Three words :
No justice, no Peace!
Yes, we really do need to bring back the right to resist. Its the only way to stop these things from happening.
Does that make three words or four?
Gee Guy, I hadn’t thought of that!!
I’d hate to think the American people started feeling so oppressed they felt the need to start shooting police officers. However, if the MSM were carrying the ball on this I’m sure a lot of people would be starting to feel that way. Its a shame. It does not have to happen, all the police need to do is to respect the people.
We recently had a situation in Modesto (CA) where a police surveilance camera caught some vicious criminals beating a woman. I don’t like having surveilance cameras running everywhere I go but SHIT I’m looking for another answer and its not coming up.
This makes me sick!. Police are the same, pathological liars everywhere. It reminds me of a case going on now with the University of Arizona Police Department. They caused a woman to lose her job by falsifying documents, lying on her, and losing video tape that would have exonerated her. I hope the FBI destroys the officer who beat this man!
Amen!!!
