Video Shows LAPD Lied In Justifying Arrest Of Reporter

A video has emerged proving that LAPD officers lied when they claimed they arrested a reporter for being drunk and belligerent.

The incident took place November 30 as more than 1,000 police officers clad in riot gear cleared out the Occupy Los Angeles encampment in front of city hall.

Calvin Milam, a reporter for City News Service, was among a large group of citizens who were being detained by a line of Los Angeles police officers.

Milam apparently knew he was being detained under unlawful orders, so he decided he wanted to walk away.

At first, he tried to show his press credentials, hoping to show the officers that he was there covering the protest instead of participating in it.

But the officers didn’t seem to care, so he attempted to walk through the line, which prompted several of them to pounce on him and take him down.

The night of his arrest, LAPD told the L.A. Weekly that Milam was drunk and belligerent and did not appear to be working in the capacity as a journalist - even though the video clearly shows a notepad sticking out of his back pocket as well as him showing the officers his credentials.

The arrest begins at the 3:22 mark in the above video.

The L.A. Weekly has since updated its original story.

Alex Mannone shot the video of Milam’s arrest and posted it to The Occupied Venice Journal last week.

Milam told The City Maven that he hasn’t had a drink in 20 years.

Geeze, cops lied about an arrest?! Is there a single cop out there with any morals, values or integrity? HINT: It's a rhetorical question.

There are a lot of honest cops but unfortunately they've all been assigned to guard the WMD

;^)

Johnny Law is the best of the lot. Which ain't saying much.

The "system" protects and supports thug cops that lie. Citizen's arrest isn't going to change that. However, citizen's arrest, citizen's tribunals, and corporal punishment afterwards will send the proper message.

We don't need to hang them all. Most will get the message after thirty lashes and a bucket of salt water.

The narrator is right about the 1% (IMO less than 1%) wanting infighting among the 99% and they have been using that tool for quite some time.

what? can't we get one cop licker to speak up for the heroic liars?

Carlos,

This one might be worth following up:

Especially interesting were the police comments:

""We are looking to ensure all our officers and staff are aware of this guidance that prevents photos from being deleted or equipment from being seized - unless there are reasonable grounds that it contains evidence in relation to an offence and it is deemed necessary to prevent the evidence being concealed, lost, altered or destroyed."

OK so far, but then...

"No-one - whether that be a member of the public or an officer - should have to be photographed and if a photographer repeatedly continues to ignore requests to refrain from doing so, it could be deemed to be causing harassment, alarm or distress."

Ahhhh sounds like a catch-all to me. So long as someone isn't literally getting in your face with a camera, if you're in a public place...

Mike
