Well they may drive like crazy but nobody was hurt ........ It's not art, but action photography can produce some interesting images. (c) 2011 Peter K. Burian www.peterkburian.com

Even though I'm not a sports photographer, I consider this art as far as you knowing how to compose it, standing in the right spot to capture them in a triangle like curve, and making sure there were no other background distractions and capturing the moment making us feel as if we were right there watching these snow mobiler's wiz on by us and having snow fly into our faces :)
Super action shot Peter.
Thanks for your kind note, Ruth. Well, there is art ... and there is Fine Art.
I have seen very few action photos that I consider to be Fine Art ... and yet, there are a few painters who specialize in paintings of hockey action, or young children playing hockey outdoors.
for example, see http://www.sportswall.com/hoartpr.html
AND http://fineartamerica.com/art/paintings/hockey/all
So, who knows?
Cheers! Peter
I guess you're right, doesn't fit in the Fine Art category that most consider painted work. What I have run into sometimes, is seeing a painting of a scene, not much of a composition, no real special light painted into it. If I stood in front of that same scene and captured it the same way, it wouldn't sell, but as a painting it will sell. :)
Nice to see you were able to capture this action shot with the 70-300. The 70-300 is my longest zoom lens that I use with my D300s. Only action sports shots I have tried are white water rafting, and so far only twice.
Good point; my wife somethimes goes on art.com And she scrolls through hundreds of items before finding one that she really loves
The 70-300mm lens is great for action photography, as long as you can get reasonably close to the subjects. I'd love a 500mm lens but do not shoot enough action to justify that lens.
P.
yeah me either. oh, btw... congrats on your POTD :)
I was just browsing around photo contests sites I know since I own one myself, and went onto IR and there it was right on the front page for the 2nd :)
I knew it was a winning type image.
Thanks, Ruth. I know the guys who run the Imaging Resource web site and I read it every day, so I thought it would be cool if they used one of my photos.
