Vivian Maier - Street Photographer

The eye of a woman - second to none!

In the realm of street photography, a wonderfully talented and nearly obscure woman emerges as one of the greatest of all time. Vivian Maier lived and photographed the streets of New York and Chicago from 1950's and 1960's. These images are a look into the soul of a culture. There is no hype or bullshit. Her images captured life lived. These images are passionate, heartfelt and soulful. Her life's work is some of the most beautiful, poignant and inspirational photography ever created. She died in 2009 at the age or 83 not knowing that her work would be seen, admired and impact so many of us. Given the events of the past 60+ years, these images are as timeless today as when she photographed them. Her lifelong work was not realized or recognized during her lifetime. Over 30,000 film negatives were only discovered in a storage locker upon her death. With these images her loving soul has reached out and touched us all. Perhaps now that her work is being seen for the first time, thanks to her two archivists and curators John Maloof, and Anthony Rydzon, she can live in all our hearts.

Thank you Vivian Maier for your gifts. Peace.

Note : You may find the sound intruding. I like to view these without sound. They are much more interesting. It is too bad that we can't view them one at a time at our own pace. I don't mean to be critical but these images are wonderful and need more time to digest.

Here is a blog that will allow you to look at her images at your own pace.

There are a couple of sites dedicated to her work, where the images can be viewed at a calmer pace.
