Wanna See Your Photos Featured?
In the past few weeks I’ve gotten contacted several times from readers asking some general questions about the website. I respond individually almost 100% of the time.
That said, I do know that if I get a few questions about the same topic then there are probably many more people who are not contacting me that may want these same questions resolved for them as well.
How do I get my photo featured on YourPhotoTips.com?
Every Thursday we feature one image from one of our readers to highlight or showcase for your enjoyment and to give that reader/photographer a nice little pat on the back for a great photograph and for sharing it with others.
It’s one way that we try to give back to the community that’s given so much to this website.
So how do you get one of your images highlighted on Thursday?
In the past, and currently still, we pull an image from our Flickr group. I try to pick an image that’s interesting and well shot. I try not to think about subject matter, or style, or composition, or who the photographer is. I try not to think about whether a particular photographer has or hasn’t been featured before. I try not to think about whether that subject matter or style was represented the previous week. I do this because I want to highlight an interesting and well shot photograph that’s been uploaded within the last week regardless of what types of photography are trending or which photographers are becoming more or less active in our community.
As stated earlier we primarily use images from our Flickr group. It’s been a great resource for us and one of the first places where many of our readers could engage in conversation amongst themselves in a community.
This was, of course, all before we had our very own forum section.
Because we are really working hard on the forums and building the community from within I’m going to give you a hint about getting your images featured.
We have space in the forums for you to show off your photography. You can ask for critiques, jump in on the giveaways and contests, or you can just show off an image that you took over the weekend. Start a new thread in the “Your shots!” section and the likelihood that you’ll get featured is much higher although this is no guarantee.
I’m going to start pulling from the forums more and more as they become more active. If there isn’t much activity then I’ll pull from the Flickr group.
The same criteria applies. You’ll get a link to your profile and you’ll get a link to any websites you associate with that profile whether it’s a photography portfolio or blog.
Sending outboud links for our readers is yet another way we try our best to give back to the community that’s given us so much.
