Weekend Perusing: The $20,000 Camera

Last Friday I was a little tied up with a destination wedding assignment so you had to go another weekend without the usual “Weekend Perusing” section. Well, this one will end up being a little bit longer than usual because there was quite a bit that happened while I was away. So here we go…

In the photoblogosphere:

Here’s a great behind the scenes look at one of Nick Onken’s latest advertising shots. Nick’s a great photographer to follow if you’re looking at the world of commercial photography.

Neil Creek has some more of his 3D images up on his blog. He always does a great job finding wonderful subjects for this type of photography. I do have to admit though that I get a headache if I view them for too long. Still, I love looking at them.

One of the things I want to accomplish as a photographer is to someday have a book printed of my work. I believe that many of you would like the same for yourselves. My Camera World has a write up on the SoFoBoMo project which could help get you (or even me) started in the process.

If you are trying to catch the eye of a photo editor then stop by Photopreneur where Dean shares some really good advice.

A special thank you goes out to Jeff at PhotoWalkPro for noting that The Hot Shoe Diaries is in stock at amazon. I think many photographers have been eagerly awaiting the book and I’m interested in seeing if you guys are as well. I’ll be sure to make it one of the books to vote on for the photography book club next month.

Looking to get your work in a gallery? Reading advice from a gallery director is a good place to start. This one comes courtesy Blog on Photoblogs.

Justin Korn really has a knack for capturing strangers. Check out his latest portrait for the project he’s currently working on.

I just got back from the beach so I instantly loved this photograph at Flak Photo.

Need a job? Live in Minneapolis? This may be the right job for you.

In Photo Gear News:

Have an extra $20,000.00 laying around. You could spend it on Mamiya’s new 33MP medium format camera. Why not get a couple and send one my way. I’ll wait…

Photography Humor:

If you’re a wedding photographer you’ll find this hilarious!

Art:

I’m really loving these new paintings by Rebecca Crowell. Remember that admiring the work of artists outside the realm of photography will vastly increase your knowledge of composition, color, and more. These tools will help your photography in ways you could never imagine.

In Your Photo Tips news:

Don’t forget about our March Photography Contest. You still have time to enter so what are you waiting for?

Remember that we’re currently reading The BetterPhoto Guide to Exposure (BetterPhoto Series) as part of the photography book club. For more information on participation see the Photography Book Club page.
