West Virginia Cop Overreacts To Guy's Question (Video)
Two brothers were pulled over for a traffic infraction in Parkersburg, West Virginia. It all seems routine and the officer seems cordial until the brother in the passenger seat decides to asks him a question.
The question, which was nothing out of the ordinary, landed the guy in jail.
The excitement begins at 1:25 in the video.

Contempt of cop, plain and simple.
OUTRAGEOUS!
Unjustifiable!
Obstruction? Really? Asking a question, if he WAS obstructed it was about 3 whole seconds.
Sue them, NOW!
Can someone give a short summary of the video for me?
I'm not near my computer and the embedded video won't play on my phone
Thanks in advance.
I'm going to pass along a little advice. First, yes the cop was totally out of line and over reacted, no doubt about it. I get that. Here is my advice. If you are a passenger in a car that gets pulled over, except in very rare circumstances( like the driver is going to admit to a crime or consent to a search) do the driver a huge favor and SHUT THE FUCK UP!! Look at this case, sure the cop was wrong, but now the passenger has the joy of explaining to a judge how the cop was wrong. I had a friend who got arrested thanks to a loud mouth passenger. Again, the chances of ANYTHING said actually helping the driver are almost 0, ZIP IT! If the cop tries to engage you keep it to a minimum, "I'm going to remain silent" is probably the best thing you can say.
Boy.. we sure know who is a pu--y here, don't we "GF"?
Why would one want to shut up, when asking a simple question is still allowed in the U.S? (Well it is getting less and less).
The other thought is, if you get false arrested enough you can retire early after all the $$$$$$ payoffs.

Agreed. It's just to bad that the taxpayer will have to pay for the lawsuit payout, as well as the paid vacation that will undoubtlly be this guys punishment. And the worst part is they will unleash this guy back onto the public to probably do it all over again.
And that's the point. This crap won't end until the court judgments hit these pigs in their bank accounts. When their pigpen is taken under lien and judgment and their sows and piglets are living in a homeless shelter while they watch helplessly from a prison cell.
Until then, and maybe not even then.
Don't talk to police. Don't interact with them at all. Do not ask them for help, do not offer them help. Refuse to deal with them at all times. Answer no questions, ever.
Of course, not talking to them might get you in jail, but talking to them might also get you in jail. You will never gain anything by speaking with them. They hate you.
Agreed! All cops are assholes and are to be avoided at all costs. There is no such thing as a "good" cop. Just "less bad" ones.
In case you're not trolling...
You can't conclude that. A friend of mine got pulled over (for tail light or registration or something) after having 2.5 beers. The cop asked him if he'd been drinking, he replied in the affirmative, and said how much. The cop shined a light in his eyes, said that he seems fine and let him go on his way. Didn't ask him to step out of the car for a "sobriety" test, nothing.
I don't think that cop hated him.
Maybe "hate" isn't the right word. They may not hate all non-police, but they certainly view everyone else as sub-human and beneath them. They have to, in order to subject people to such treatment.
As for your friend, I think he found one good apple among the huge pile of bad apples.
The friend was a little mouthy, but certainly didn't deserve to be arrested for that.
The kid asked if he could ask the cop a question, the cop said yes, the kid asked his question, the cop responded back in an extremely unprofessional manner, the kid asked a second question "did you witness it?" at which point the officer went ballistic and placed the kid under arrest illegally.
It was clear from the get go that the cop was in a bad mood, it is also clear that he wildly overstepped his bounds.
Thanks Jim
And how well did that turn out? Again, passengers, STFU when cops pull drivers over, no "questions" or any other conversation outside of "am I being detained", and "am I free to go" and those ONLY if the cop engages you. Save the "conversation" for the judge if things go badly.
Gotta say, I completely disagree. If your pulled over in the United States, you still have the freedom of speech. If the cop wants to overreact and arrest you illegally, oh well. Time for a lawsuit for the illegal arrest.
Hey at least this guy should get a big payday from the lawsuit. To bad it's the taxpayers and not the officer that has to foot the bill for the officers bad day
The idea is to get the "taxpayers" to pay attention to the way their taxes go up to pay for this crap. Then they yell at their elected officials to do something about the rogue pigs who cost them money. Then the elected official yells at the police chief to get rid of the rogue pigs.
Doesn't seem to be working.
Until I started reading this forum and some similar ones, I had no idea how often the taxpayers were on the hook for payouts. It would be interesting to see what the payouts for different communities are over a 5 or 10 year time frame.
As a driver, I would probably be unhappy if my passenger verbally engaged a cop. In most instances, it isn't going to help. However, I do think the cop overreacted after he said it was okay for the passenger to ask a question.
The real shame is that we are spending billions of dollars nationwide on this foolishness. It isn't just the settlements, it's also the room and board for those falsely arrested, the employees that have to process that, the attorney time for both sides, etc., etc., etc.
what's even sadder is the fact that we USED to have rights in this country

GOOD news? Bart you're a fucking idiot.
Hey everyone! It's Bart!
Well hello Johnny Spin's #1 sock puppet! Long time no see.
Probably hoping people would forget if he didn't use that account for a while.
That arrest seems completely illegal to me. If that is obstruction, the term needs a more proper defination.
That isn't even 'contempt of cop', even if I don't think the term is befitting most times anyway. It's just not even contempt. It's a verbal disagreement.
It's fantastic news if you love poorly trained police officers.
