Woman Sues NYPD for Beating Her Up As She Tried to Take Photo

A woman is suing the New York City Police Department for $24 million, claiming officers beat her up and arrested her after she tried to photograph them making an arrest.

The incident occurred in 2009 when Hope Gonzalez and her boyfriend, Pedro Gomez, came across a young man being "abused" by a group of officers.

She pulled out her camera to take a photo and the officers turned on her, striking her billy clubs and breaking her nose, according to the New York Post.

She was charged with resisting arrested after police accused her of spitting in their faces.

Those charges were dropped.

Liability insurance can only last so long folks. The insurance company will need a federal bailout for the payouts of the police force's cost effective settlements.

There is no liability insurance. New York City is self-insured. Ka-ching!!

I wonder what really happened.

It's too bad cops tend to go for the camera first when abusing their authority, or we might be able to see video of the incident.

After all, as many cops tell citizens (generally regarding search permission, but it's somewhat relevant to this): If you haven't done anything wrong, what are you afraid of?

If the police act properly, then all a video will show is them acting properly, and being a credit to their profession and department. If the videographer acted improperly, the video will also show that. It's such a shame there isn't any video, but that's not the videographer's fault.

That's what I almost always say after reading details of a police report or any other account where only the police officer witnessed the incident.

Hey johnny law, thanks for proving cops can be trolls too.

Did we really expect "Johnny Law" to respond with anything else..!!..??

I prefer to be true to myself, even at the hazard of incurring the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and to incur my own abhorrence well said by Frederick.
