Your Photo Tips Has Moved!

Welcome to Pixiq!

Whoa!  There's a new home for the Your Photo Tips blog and it's here at Pixiq!

I'm very happy to announce a major, and hopefully very long term partnership, with the fine folks at Pixiq.com.

Many of you regular readers of the Your Photo Tips blog have been with us from the beginning and have supported my efforts with your contributions in various forms.  To you, and all of you who have supported the blog in other ways, I offer a huge "Thank You!".

A little history

A little over 3 years ago I started the Your Photo Tips blog because I felt like I had a good supply of knowledge on photographic techniques that I wanted to share with the world.  It's been a great experience, sometimes very rewarding, sometimes very humbling, but mostly very inspiring.

The community that's been built around our humble little website has often times provided the lifeblood of what I've done with the blog.  You, dear readers, have given me the drive to push through and continue my efforts when I've felt bogged down and sometimes even (gasp!) felt like quitting all together.

We have a wonderful flickr group, a thriving facebook fanpage, and a rather large following on our Twitter profile that have very much directly led to the successes we've had.

What changes can you expect?

I'd love to be able to tell you that absolutely nothing will change.  But that's simply not true.

During the last few months we've worked really hard to build a thriving forum on our old servers and things were progressing rather nicely.  These forums, unfortunately, no longer exist.  I've sent an announcement to our active forum members with a hint of things to come.  Hopefully, you're checking in and reading this.  There is a silver lining.  The forums here at Pixiq are filling up very nicely with great content and there is a wealth of wonderful photography experts who will be checking in on them.  The overall value of the Pixiq forums will be huge!  It's way more than I could have every been able to offer on my own. I highly suggest joining the forums.  I will be keeping a close eye on them and jumping in and answering questions where and when I can.

The comments section on the blog is different also.  On the old servers I was using the Disqus platform but in joining the Pixiq community you will have to sign up before leaving a comment.  I know this will turn off some people to leaving comments but that's just kinda how it works.  I feel that with the wealth of knowledge on this website you'll find much value in doing so.

On our old servers we used to offer guest posts.  This will no longer be an option.  I will be the sole voice on this section of this blog.  My wife thinks this is a bad thing.  She thinks I talk too much as it is and without any other voices chiming in I will be brainwashing you all into becoming minions of my ways.  I say this is not true!  We're joining a website filled with some of the most highest respected photographers in the publishing industry you'll get a wonderful variety of voices coming from various aspects of photography if you sign up for any of the RSS feeds on the site.

If you're a newsletter subscriber you'll notice that we are going to a monthly newsletter from a weekly.  Pixiq does offer a weekly newsletter and I'll be giving you information on how to subscribe to that.

What doesn't change

Quality and frequency.  Yeah...I went there.  I'll still be offering quality posts on photographic tips and techniques about 3-4 times a week.

Your RSS feed!  I'm crossing my fingers on this one and truthfully I won't know until I hit the publish button at the end of this post.  Hopefully the old RSS feeds will work and there won't be any interruptions.  I'll monitor this closely and work at fixing any issues that come up.

I'm excited again, and that's a good thing.  Warning: This is the selfish part of the post. I'm excited to be joining this company and it's given me a new resolve.  To be perfectly honest I kinda needed this "shot in the arm".  Anyone who blogs, and has done so for a while, will know what I'm talking about.

Conclusion

I'm happy to make this announcement and I think it's a great partnership for me, for you dear readers, and for (dare I say it) Pixiq.

Stay tuned.

Hey Jack,

I'm starting to feel very welcomed and excited!

Hi Damien.
I follow you all over the place... old site, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and now the new site. No, I'm not your stalker, just a fan. LOL
And, I can definitely relate to needing a shot in the arm!!! I'm feeling the need to change my blog up a bit. I'm not sure how or what, but I'm feeling the need.

Hi Misty,

Thanks for stopping by and don't worry I don't think you're stalking. LOL.

If you need something new to do with your blog maybe try a new project or weekly "column" or something. Heck, even changing themes or colors can bring a little life to it.

Either way, keep pushing through. You're doing great work.
