Zork Zörk Zoerk Tilt + HDR

My newest toy! The proper spelling is the one with the umlaut over the o. The most common spelling seems to be just Zork.

The gallery shows examples of a popular technique called tilt shift. Each of these images was created with a special lens mount called a Zork MFS. MFS stands for Multi Focus System. The Zork allows the lens to be tilted in any direction. This causes the plane of focus to transverse the sensor in such a way as to produce a very selective area of sharp focus. The focus effects can vary depending on the amount of tilt used, the aperture selected and the subject. Effects that are possible range from isolating a subject, the miniaturization of a scene, and producing sharpened planes such as the side of a building or a fence. These kinds of devices are usually referred to as PC or Perspective Control lenses.

In the selections within the gallery, I have tried to show a number of different kinds of focus results.

Each of these images was processed using various HDR methods within Photomatix Pro.

The Zork is a great alternative to more expensive Schneider, Canon or Nikon tilt shift lenses.

I discuss tilt techniques in my book - Rethinking Digital Photography -
